Hooper Wins Third Big Ten Weekly Award

Lincoln - Nebraska's Jordan Hooper claimed her third Big Ten Player-of-the-Week award in the past four weeks when the conference announced its weekly honors on Monday.

Hooper, a 6-2 sophomore forward from Alliance, Neb., took over as the Big Ten's top scorer with her third 30-point performance in the past four games in Nebraska's 71-63 win at No. 16 Penn State on Dec. 30.

Hooper scored 19 of her 31 points in the second half while adding her sixth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds to lead the Huskers back from a nine-point second-half deficit against the Lady Lions.

Hooper hit 11-of-21 shots from the field, including 4-of-11 three-pointers, while connecting on 5-of-6 free throw attempts. Her three-pointer from the left wing with 16.5 seconds left gave the Huskers an insurmountable 69-63 lead, before she grabbed the final rebound of the game at the defensive end on PSU's final possession. She was fouled and sank both free throws to seal Nebraska's first-ever Big Ten Conference victory, while leading the Huskers to just their third true road win over an AP top 20 team in the past 12 years.

Hooper became just the second Husker in history to score 30 or more points three times in a four-game stretch, joining fellow Alliance native Amy Stephens, who accomplished the feat four times in a five-game stretch in February of 1989.

Over the past four games, Hooper is averaging 28.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 54.3 percent from the field, including 43.8 percent from three-point range, and 80 percent from the free throw line.

Hooper, who also won Big Ten weekly honors on Dec. 12 and Dec. 26, leads the Big Ten by averaging 21.2 points per game, while ranking second in the conference in rebounding with 9.2 boards per contest. Michigan State's Lykendra Johnson leads the Big Ten at 9.3 rebounds per game.

Hooper and the Huskers play their first first-ever Big Ten home game on Thursday, Jan. 5, when they take on the Indiana Hoosiers at the Devaney Center. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m., with tickets available now at Huskers.com.
