Focused, Energetic Huskers Look to Minnesota

Lincoln, Neb. - With their final home game of 2012 on the horizon, the Nebraska football team practiced for 90 minutes on Thursday afternoon. The team split their time between the Ed and Joyanne Gass Practice Field and the Hawks Championship Center, working out in shorts and helmets in preparation for Saturday's Legends Division game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Following practice, Head Coach Bo Pelini spoke to the media about how the energy and focus level has been for the Huskers this week.

"I thought we practiced well," Pelini said. "The energy's been good. Now we have to just go take it to Saturday. It's going to be a tough football game."

Pelini also discussed his impressions of Minnesota's true freshman quarterback Philip Nelson.

"I think the guy is a pretty good player," Pelini said. "I think he's shown good poise. He understands what they're trying to do offensively, and I think he executes well. He doesn't play like a freshman."

When asked about the status of senior running back Rex Burkhead, Pelini said it will be a game time decision on whether Burkhead plays.

"He's had a really good week," Pelini said. "But we'll play it by ear and see how he feels and we'll go from there."

Nebraska's preparations for Minnesota will wrap up tomorrow when the Huskers conduct a final walkthrough practice before Saturday. NU's showdown with the Golden Gophers is set for a 2:30 p.m. CST kickoff and will be broadcast on BTN.
