After
missing the first seven games of the 2012 season with a knee injury, senior
Jordan Jackson returned for NU's Big Ten opener and made an immediate impact
with a goal and an assist. Jackson scored Nebraska's first goal of the game to
lead the Huskers to a 2-0 win over the Northwestern Wildcats at Lakeside Field
to improve to 4-4 overall on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Just
after the midway point of the first half at 24:31, Jackson took control of the
ball across midfield and drove all the way up field where she fired from the
top of the box and found the back of the net over the outstretched hands of
Wildcat goalie Anna Cassell.
The
Husker defense then took over and allowed the Wildcats to get just one shot on
goal, with Emma Stevens picking up a save for her second shutout of the season.
Jackson
delivered her first assist of the season late in the game at 67:06 to put the
game away. Following a cross from Caroline Gray, Jackson booted a pass high in
front of the goal, where Mayme Conroy timed a header for her team-leading
fourth goal of the season.
The
Huskers now return to Lincoln for their final non-conference game of the season
on Sunday when they host the Northern Colorado Bears. The game is scheduled for
1 p.m. at the Nebraska Soccer Field and will be streamed on BTN.com.
