Lincoln - Even though the
Nebraska soccer team (4-4-1, 1-0-0 Big Ten) dominated the offensive side of the
box score on Sunday afternoon, it had to settle for a 1-1 tie with the Northern
Colorado Bears. The Huskers outshot the Bears, 30-to-13, on the afternoon and
held a 6-to-1 advantage in corner kicks, but were unable to find another goal
to secure victory.
Northern
Colorado goalie Natalie D'Adamio had a busy day, as she racked up 15 saves, with
five different Huskers producing two shots on goal on the afternoon. NU goalie
Emma Stevens recorded six saves and the Huskers added a team save on a
goal-saving stop by Martiza Hayes behind Stevens.
The
Bears struck first in the game at 22:04 when Ambree Bellin put a free kick into
the box that was headed by Chandler Guetz and pulled Stevens away from the
goal, but the ball slipped to JJ Wykstra, who scored in the open net to put
Northern Colorado up 1-0.
The
Huskers finally were able to break through at 54:41 with Caroline Flynn's first
career goal. The freshman from Lincoln received a cross from Hannah Dittmar on
the north side of the Bears' goal from 10 yards out and buried a shot into the
south end of the goal to tie the game.
With
the two teams tied at the end of regulation, the Huskers outshot the Bears
4-to-1 in the first overtime period, but were unable to score. NU got off two
more shots in the second overtime, but were unable to find a way to get the ball
past D'Adamio.
Nebraska
hosts its Big Ten Conference home opener next Friday, Sept. 21, when the Purdue
Boilermakers pay a visit to the Nebraska Soccer Field for a 4:30 p.m. game. The
Huskers then host the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m.
