Huskers Overpower Redhawks

By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln - The Nebraska soccer team (3-4-0) put on a dominating performance on Saturday afternoon at the Nebraska Soccer Field with a 4-0 shutout win over the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. The Huskers put up a season-high 30 shots, while allowing just one shot all day from the Redhawks.

Four different Huskers scored on the day, while junior Emma Stevens and sophomore Amy Swearer combined for NU's second shutout of the season. Nebraska's defense swarmed the Redhawks' attack all afternoon, as they failed to get a shot off until the 86:00 mark.

The Huskers held an 11-0 shot advantage in the first half, including six on goal, but SEMO goalie Aston Aubuchon came through with six saves to keep NU off the board and sent the game to a 0-0 tie into halftime.

Nebraska's constant offensive attack got to Aubuchon in the second half, starting with Caroline Gray's first goal of the season at 50:48. Following a foul by the Redhawks, Gray put a free kick into the right side of the net from nearly 25 yards away to give NU a 1-0 lead.

Almost exactly 10 minutes later, Mayme Conroy delivered her team leading third goal of the season. Stacy Bartels crossed the bar in front of the goal from the southeast corner of the field and Conroy was there with a perfectly timed header to extend Nebraska's lead to 2-0.

The goals kept coming for the Huskers when Hannah Dittmar scored her second career goal off a corner kick from Gray. From the northeast corner of the field, Gray booted the ball over the Redhawks' defenders to the south post, where Dittmar found the back of the net from a few yards away.

Bartels capped the Huskers' day less than a minute later at 73:34 with her first goal of the season. The junior from Omaha found an opening from less than 10 yards out on a cross from freshman Emily Taylor, who picked up her first career point at Nebraska with the assist.

With seven non-conference games in the books, the Huskers now prepare for their Big Ten Conference opener at Northwestern on Friday, Sept. 14. The game is schedule for 5 p.m. (CT) and will be shown on tape delay on the Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. (CT) the same day.
