Champaign, Ill. - Following a 2-1
overtime win at Iowa on Thursday night, the Nebraska soccer team (7-10-1, 4-6-0
Big Ten) was unable to complete a perfect weekend following a 4-1 loss to the
Illinois Fighting Illini (8-7-2, 5-4-1 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon.
The
Huskers entered the game sitting sole possession of seventh place in the Big
Ten standings and with one game remaining on the conference schedule, they will
be one of many teams later this week that will be fighting to earn a spot at
the conference tournament.
The
Illini jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game on a pair of goals from
Shayla Mutz, but Mayme Conroy's 12th goal of the season at the 39:45 mark put
the Huskers in a good position down just one goal going into halftime.
Nebraska
was unable to get its offense going in the second half and Illinois added two
more goals to coast to a 4-1 win.
Illinois
was on the attack all day with a 24-to-12 advantage in shots and the Illini
registered seven corner kicks, while the Huskers notched only one.
The
Huskers now set their sights on the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who will visit
the Nebraska Soccer Field on Friday, Oct. 26 for a 4 p.m. game. The game is
schedule to be streamed live on BTN.com (subscription required) and live stats
will be available on Huskers.com.
