Romero to Compete for Mexico in Friendly with USA

By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln - Nebraska senior defender Ari Romero is one of four collegians to be called up for Mexico's women's international friendly against the United States of America in Washington, D.C. at RFK Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The contest will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 at 7 p.m (Central).

Romero, who was unable to compete for the Huskers on Monday while traveling to our nation's capital, missed the first five games of Nebraska's 2012 season while competing for the Mexican Under-20 National team at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan.

Romero, a 2012 second-team All-Big Ten selection, has been steadily progressing through the Mexican National Team the past few years. Romero was selected to be part of the Mexican National Team that competed at the CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Vancouver, British Columbia, in January 2012. Romero was also on the under-20 team that competed at the CONCACAF Championships in Panama City, Panama, in February 2012.

Nebraska (2-1-1) will return to action next Sunday, Sept. 8 with a road contest against the Arkansas Razorbacks at 2 p.m.
