Lincoln - Nebraska junior
defender Ari Romero has been named to the Mexican National Team's Under-20 team
that will compete at the upcoming CONCACAF Championships in Panama City,
Panama. The top three teams at the tournament will earn a spot at the Under-20
World Cup this summer in Japan.
This
will be Romero's second CONCACAF event of 2012, as the she was a member of the
Mexican Senior National team that completed in January at the CONCACAF Women's Olympic
Qualifying Tournament in Vancouver, British Columbia. Romero is one of five
under-20 players that was named to both rosters. Mexico will be in search of
its fourth straight trip to the U-20 World Cup, as it has finished in the top
three at the past three tournaments, including two runner-up finishes.
The
tournament starts on Friday, March 1, and will run through Sunday, March 11. Mexico
will play in Group A with Canada, Jamaica and Haiti, while Group B consists of the
United States, Guatemala, Panama and Cuba. Group game will run through Tuesday, March 6,
and the semifinals will begin on Friday, March 9.
