London Hawk added depth to the Nebraska cross country team in 2014, while expanding his training base as a member of the Husker track and field team’s middle distance squad.
The Illinois native competed in one cross country meet as a junior, finishing 68th (33:20.50) at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneers Park.
Hawk trained throughout the 2013 season with the Husker cross country squad, but did not compete in any meets.
On the track, Hawk finished third in the 600 meters (1:17.49p/1:17.41o) at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships. He was also a member of Nebraska’s fifth-place distance medley relay team that ran the second-best time in school history (9:32.85) at the conference indoor meet.
Hawk joined the Nebraska cross country team for his first season of collegiate cross country in 2012. Hawk used the cross country season to expand his training base for the indoor and outdoor track seasons, while providing valuable depth to the young Husker men’s team.
Hawk competed in only one meet during his freshman campaign, running at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln. Hawk finished 288th in a time of 32:23.40.
A leader off the course for the Huskers, Hawk earned a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2013.
Before Nebraska (Thornwood)
Hawk came to Nebraska after a stellar career for Coach Brian Evans at Thornwood High School. He won the 2011 Illinois state championship in the 400. He finished third as a member of Thornwood’s 4x400 relay team and took eighth individually in the 800. Hawk finished sixth at nationals with a 47.8 split in the 400 in 2010, while taking second at nationals in 2011 with a split of 47.1. He was also a member of Thornwood’s academic honor roll.
The son of Rochelle Hawk, London was born Feb. 17, 1993. He is a family science major at Nebraska. A leader in the community, Hawk earned a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2013. He also claimed a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2015.
