NCAA qualifiers Robert Kokesh, Tim Lambert and Austin Wilson earned spots on the 2014 NWCA Individual All-Academic Wrestling Team when the list was announced on Wednesday.
Kokesh, a junior agronomy major, makes his first appearance after finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships in March. Lambert, a redshirt freshman environmental restoration science major, and Austin Wilson, a sophomore biological sciences major, are also appearing on the list for the first time.
In addition to individuals, the NWCA also announced its Division I All-Academic Top 30 Teams, and Nebraska earned the No. 28 spot. The Huskers compiled a 3.0576 grade-point average on the criteria used by the NWCA. Harvard captured the top GPA award for the second consecutive season with a 3.3657 mark.
The team grade-point average was determined using a system that includes 12 student-athletes from each program. A total of 10 of these came from the wrestlers that were entries in the NCAA tournament conference qualifier. If teams had less than 10 entries for their respective qualifier, they were allowed to fill those spots with wrestlers that competed in at least one varsity dual during the season.
