No. 8 Huskers Drop Rematch with No. 6 Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minn. - The No. 8 Nebraska men's gymnastics team was edged by the No. 6 Minnesota Golden Gophers by a score of 345.600-339.400 on Saturday at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion. The Huskers' team score marked a new season high, and the team put together a season-best mark on floor exercise while tying their season-best on parallel bars.

Freshman Grant Perdue led the Huskers on the day, picking up a pair of event titles on floor exercise and vault. Perdue's mark of 14.80 on vault was his season-best, while his mark of 14.80 on floor tied his team-leading mark this season. Sophomore Eric Schryver's score of 14.60 on horse was good for the event title on horse, his second title in the event in 2012.

Nebraska started the day on pommel horse, tallying a team score of 54.800. The Huskers were paced by sophomore Eric Schryver, who posted a score of 14.60, his best mark since January on horse. Sophomore Donovan Arndt contributed a 13.70, while freshman Gabriel Jolley added a mark of 13.50.

Minnesota posted a 58.700 on floor exercise to lead Nebraska after the first rotation, 58.700-54.800.

NU moved on to floor exercise, where the Huskers exploded for a team score of 58.500, over two points higher than their season average and a team best this season. Perdue's meet-leading mark was tops for the Huskers, while sophomore Wyatt Aycock and senior Andreas Hofer added scores of 14.60 for the Big Red.

The Golden Gophers posted a score of 55.000 on pommel horse to narrowly lead the Huskers after two rotations, 113.700-113.300.

The Huskers took to vault next, totaling a score of 58.400. Perdue was again the leader for Nebraska as he picked up his second event title of the day. Hofer hit a score of 14.70 on the event, and Aycock tacked on a 14.60, his best of the season as well.

Minnesota's mark of 58.900 on still rings allowed them to hold on to their lead over Nebraska after three rotations, 172.600-171.700.

The fourth rotation took Nebraska to rings, where the Huskers put together a team score of 55.300. Arndt led Nebraska on the event, posting a score of 14.20. Hofer added a 13.80, while Perdue hit a 13.70 mark for the Huskers.

Minnesota posted a 58.000 on vault, but NU's showing in rings allowed the Golden Gophers to push their lead out to 230.600-227.000 after four rotations.

The Huskers moved to high bar on the fifth rotation, posting a team mark of 55.800. Freshman Connor Stillwell and Hofer were the team leaders on high bar, with each hitting a score of 14.10. Senior Will Eastman added a score of 13.90 for the Big Red.

Minnesota took to parallel bars on their fifth rotation, picking up a team score of 57.700. With just one event to go, the Golden Gophers led Nebraska by a score of 288.300-282.800.

Nebraska appeared on parallel bars for their sixth and final event. The Huskers picked up a team score of 56.600, tying their season-best on the event. Schryver was the Husker leader on parallel bars, picking up a mark of 14.40. Hofer added a 14.20, while sophomore Mark Ringle posted a 14.10.

Minnesota wrapped things up on high bar with a team score of 57.300 that sealed their victory. UM's team total of 345.600 also marked a season high for the Golden Gophers.

Nebraska will take a week off from competition before hosting a dual with Arizona State on March 4 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln. The match will be held in conjunction with the Nebraska women's gymnastics team's dual with Florida. The event will begin at 2 p.m. and will be a Pepsi Pack the House dual meet featuring $1 admission and $1 24 oz. Pepsi products.
