Junior Jessie DeZiel earned her first Big Ten individual honor of the season as announced by the conference on Monday. DeZiel was named Big Ten Gymnast of The Week after she captured two event titles en-route to winning the all-around crown at the 24th Masters Classic on Sunday, Feb. 23. This is DeZiel's 14th overall Big Ten weekly honor.
At the Masters Classic, DeZiel exploded to a 9.975 on vault to claim the event title and secure her new career-high mark in the event. This gives her the second-highest individual vault score in Masters Classic history, behind UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa's score of a perfect 10.00 back in 2009. DeZiel also tied for top honors on bars notching a 9.90. She went on to claim fourth on beam (9.80) and second on floor (9.85) en-route to the all-around crown with a score of 39.525.
Also notable is DeZiel's all-around mark of 39.525 which ranks eighth in the top all-around scores of Masters Classic history. In the national rankings she pulls down an 18th place ranking in the all-around (39.195) as well as 24th on vault (9.880).
DeZiel and the Huskers will hit the road for the third time this season heading to Corvallis, Oregon to face a pair of Pac-12 teams in No. 14 Oregon State and Arizona State in a tri-meet on Saturday, March 1 at 8 p.m. CT.
