Former Husker Assistant Coach Passes Away

Lincoln- The Nebraska women's gymnastics family lost former assistant coach Melvin "Dan" Schermann of Lakeville, Minn. over the weekend. Schermann, who was 50 years old, died in a motorcycle crash.
An assistant coach at Nebraska from 1990-1991, Schermann was also a student coach for the Huskers from 1988-1989. He helped the Huskers capture the Big Eight title in 1990 and finish fifth at the 1990 NCAA Championships.
Schermann is survived by his wife, Mary (Ocel) Schermann, a former Husker gymnast from 1986-1988 and the first NU gymnast to earn academic All-America status, and children, Kylie, Tyler and Trevor. Funeral services will be help on Sunday, July 10 at 2 p.m. at Hosanna! Church in Lakeville, Minn.
