DeZiel Claims Big Ten Freshman of the Week

True freshman gymnast Jessie DeZiel was awarded with the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award on Monday, a day after tying for first place in the all-around in Nebraska's loss to No. 1 Florida. The Rogers, Minn., native has now won seven Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards and nine individual conference honors after capturing Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 16 and Feb. 20.

DeZiel won two event titles on vault (9.90) and floor (9.875) en route to scoring a 39.45 in the all-around, which tied her with fellow Husker Emily Wong for the top spot. It was the sixth time this season DeZiel has won the all-around. DeZiel finished the in sixth place on both bars (9.85) and beam (9.825), while helping the Huskers post a season-best 49.35 on the bars.

The Big Ten's Co-Gymnast of the Week award was shared by Ohio State's Sarah Miller and Penn State's Sharaya Musser.

The No. 6 Huskers return to action this weekend when they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to battle the No. 7 Utah Utes on Friday, March 9, at 8 p.m. (CT).
