The Nebraska swimming and diving team finished the first session of the Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday evening. The session consisted of the 200-yard medley relay, 800-yard freestyle relay and a 3-meter synchronized diving exhibition.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Rebekah Land, Shannon Guy, Hayley Martin and Ariel Weech finished the event in 1:43.26, just 2.18 seconds off of the NU best, set at least season's Big 12 Championships by Ellan Dufour, Guy, Kelsey Grushecky and Weech. The relay team finished the event eleventh.
The team of Martin, Bailey Pons, Caroline Shea and Kelly Dunn competed and finished eleventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay in the final event of the first session. The team finished the race in 7:22.76.
The synchronized diving exhibition saw Alyson Ramsey and Kaitlan Walker finish in first-place out of the eight event entrants. Their score of 232.56 secured the first-place finish by 15.63 points over Purdue's Mackenzie Tweardy and Madelyn Miskulin.
Thursday's preliminary action begins at 11 a.m., with the 500-yard freestyle, followed by the 200-yard IM, 1 meter dive and the 50-yard freestyle. Thursday's competition will conclude with event finals beginning at 6 p.m.
