Session Four: Guy and Dufour Qualify for Finals

The Nebraska swimming and diving team finished the fourth session at the Big Ten Championships on Friday morning.

The fourth session saw NU's Shannon Guy qualify ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.27, a career-best. Guy will compete in the event's finals during this evening's fifth session. Guy's finish is Nebraska's best preliminary finish thus far at the championships. The time also vaults Guy into the Nebraska record book, as her time is the second-fastest in NU history, just behind Mariah Hutchinson's time of 54.16 set in 2009.

100-Yard Butterfly Results:
9th - Shannon Guy, 54.27 (career-best, 2nd all-time)
30th - Natalie Morris, 55.88 (career-best)
56th - Mary Beth Rye, 1:02.45

The 400-IM prelims saw four Huskers compete, as Katie Davis finished 38th with a season-best 4:25.99 time.

The 200-yard freestyle included Hayley Martin's fifth-best all-time performance in 1:49.09. It was also a career-best time for Martin, who finished 25th in prelims. In all, five NU career-best times were set in the preliminaries.

The 100-yard breaststroke saw every NU competitor set either a career or season-best time in the event.

Ellan Dufour qualified for Friday evening's finals in the 100-yard backstroke with a 20th-place finish in the preliminaries. Dufour's time of 55.65 was her best of the year.

Each event's finals will take place Friday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. The evening session will also include the 3-meter diving finals.
