Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team finished
their preseason Saturday morning with their ninth-annual alumni meet at the
Devaney Natatorium.
Of the seven Husker alumni in attendance Saturday, three
competed on the day. Mike Irvin stole the show, winning the 100-yard individual
medley, 100-yard freestyle, and 50-yard butterfly. Bobbi Balogh and Liz Hefly
also competed for the alumni.
Other Nebraska alumni in attendance were Rynaldo Castro, Meredith
Matthies, Danielle Kaliff, and graduate assistant Jenna Stroud.
The Huskers were led by senior Hayley Martin, who won both
the 50- and 100-yard backstroke events. Other Husker victors were Taryn Collura
in the 50-yard freestyle, Nikolina Sabo in the 100-yard butterfly, Shannon Guy
in the 50-yard breaststroke, Kristin Strecker in the 100-yard breaststroke, and
Ariel Weech in the 25-yard freestyle.
The Huskers will spend the next two weeks preparing for their
regular season opener on Friday, October 12, against St. Cloud State and the
University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D.
