Radevica Finishes Sixth at European Championships

Lincoln, Neb. - The European Championships continued on Thursday as a number of current and former Huskers took to the track for competition in Helsinki, Finland.

Ineta Radevica, who was the first female European long jump champion from Latvia two years ago, took to the runway for the finals of the women's long jump. She recorded a leap of 21-6 (6.55) on her third attempt to finish in sixth place.

Bjorn Barrefors completed the decathlon with 7,537 points to finish 16th. He recorded a time of 14.83 in the 110 meter hurdles, while notching a throw of 130-7 (39.80) in the discus. He then went on to post a vault of 16-0 3/4 (4.90) in the pole vault and a throw of 160-10 (49.03) in the javelin. Barrefors finished his day with a time of 4:56.97 in the 1,500 meters.

Future Husker Janis Leitis posted a time of 45.88 in the men's 400 meters semifinals. With the time he finished third in his section and tied for sixth overall, but would not move on to qualify for the finals.
