Huskers Open Multi-Event Competition in Kansas, California

The Husker multi-eventers opened a busy few days of competition on Wednesday as they took to the track at the Kansas Relays and the Mt. SAC Relays/California Invitational Combined Events.

At the Kansas Relays, Guy Fenske closed the first day of decathlon competition in first place with 3,666 points. He started the day with a personal-best time of 11.06 in the 100 meters, followed by a personal-best of 22-5 (6.83) in the long jump. He then posted another personal best with a throw of 42-2 ¼ (12.86) in the shot put and tallied a PR in the high jump with a leap of 6-3 ½ (1.92). He closed the first day with a time of 53.62 in the 400 meters.

Anne Martin and Melissa-Maree Farrington represented the Huskers in the heptathlon on the first day at the California Invitational Combined Events.

Farrington started the day with a time of 14.18 in the 100-meter hurdles, followed by a leap of 5-3 (1.60) in the high jump. She notched a throw of 36-5 3/4 (11.12) in the shot put and a time of 25.80 in the 200 meters. She finished the first day with 3,107 points.

Martin kicked off the competition with a time of 14.63 in the 100-meter hurdles, before a leap of 5-5 ¼ (1.66) in the high jump and a throw of 38-10 ¼ (11.84) in the shot put. She closed the day with a time of 25.13 in the 200 meters. She has a total of 3,223 points after the first day.
