Five Huskers Earn Academic All-District Honors

Lincoln - Five members of Gary Pepin's track and field team were named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 7 Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. The NU men's squad produced three of the 10 selections on the district first team, while the women's squad had two second-team honorees. The three first-team selections will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot.

The men were led by seniors Bjorn Barrefors, Nate Polacek and junior Brett Grieb as they were all first-team picks. The Husker men tied Arizona State and Stanford in the Division I category for the most first-team selections as all had three each. Barrefors will compete in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships next week in Des Moines, Iowa. He will look to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the third straight year, and Polacek will look for his second straight CoSIDA Academic All-America selection.

The women's team was led by seniors Ashley Miller and Cami Jiskra as both earned second-team honors. Miller will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1,500 meters next week.

The 2012 CoSIDA Academic All-America teams are set to be released in late June. Dating back to 1985, the Nebraska track and field team has 24 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans on the women's side and the men have another 19.
