Tyrell Ross medaled in the 110-meter hurdles at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships for the third straight year and made his second straight trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2009... placed in the top 10 at all seven of his indoor meets in the 60-meter hurdles... after opening with a fifth-place time of 8.12 at the Holiday Inn Invitational, took first at the NWU Invitational with a time of 7.99... followed with a third-place showing of 8.00 at the adidas Classic... ran a season-best time of 7.96 at the ISU Classic to place seventh... missed the finals at the Big 12 Indoor Championships by one spot, finishing ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 8.03... started the outdoor season on a high note by regionally qualifying for the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles at the Baldy Castillo Invitational with times of 14.09 and 52.24, respectively... ran the opening leg of the 4x110-shuttle hurdle relay at the Penn Relays that set the school record with a time of 54.90... placed fifth in the 110 hurdles and eighth in the 400 hurdles at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships... automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 110 hurdles after finishing third at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a season-best time of 13.86... improved his finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with an 18th-place time of 14.16, after finishing 22nd in 2008.
Ross made his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after scoring at both the indoor and outdoor Big 12 Championships...placed in the top seven at every meet during the indoor season in the 60-meter hurdles... finished first at the Conference Challenge (8.07), while taking runner-up honors at the Prairie Wolf Invitational (8.09) and the Nebraska Last Chance (7.96)... posted a personal best of 7.84 in the preliminaries of the Big 12 Indoor Championships... finished third in the finals of the conference championships with a time of 7.88... placed in the top five at every meet except the Drake Relays... earned victories at the Kansas Relays (14.02), Nebraska Open (14.17) and Ward Haylett Invitational (13.80w)... defeated three-time (2000, 2004, 2008) Olympic decathlete Tom Pappas, at the Kansas Relays... scored at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships for the second straight year with a fourth-place finish (13.94)... ran a personal-best time of 13.87 in the preliminaries at the NCAA Midwest Regional... earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Outdoor Championships with his fifth-place finish (14.01) at the regional meet... finished 22nd overall at the NCAA meet after running a time of 14.07 in the preliminaries.
2007 (Redshirt Freshman)
Ross emerged as a solid hurdler in his redshirt freshman campaign... won the 60-meter hurdles twice during the indoor season, at the Conference Challenge (8.22) and at the Prairie Wolf Invitational (8.09)... finished the year with a season best of 7.99 at the Big 12 Championships in the prelims... in the second outdoor meet (Texas Relays) qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional with a 14.23w in the 110-meter hurdle prelims... won the 110-meter hurdles at the Kansas Relays (14.00w), Nebraska Open (14.12w), and the Nebraska Invitational (13.90w)... exceeded the regional qualifying time with his wind-aided 13.90 at the Nebraska Invitational, but the wind was above the allowable rate for qualification... was a member of the 4x110-meter shuttle hurdle relay that won the Kansas Relays... ran the lead leg of the 4x100-meter relay the last three meets of the season... won the 4x100-meter relay at the Nebraska Invitational, took third at the Big 12 Championships and seventh at the NCAA Midwest Regional... ran a season-best (13.96) in the prelims of the Big 12 Championships and placed eighth in the finals (14.21)... ended the season with an eighth-place (14.34) finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional after a 14.02 in the prelims... ran a personal best of 53.01 in the prelims of the Kansas Relays 400-meter hurdles.
Ross redshirted both indoor and outdoor seasons during his first year at Nebraska... competed unattached in the 60-meter hurdles at four meets indoors... ran a personal-best (8.23) while finishing second at the Prairie Wolf Invitational... also placed third (8.35) at the Nebraska Wesleyan Triangular... competed unattached outdoors at the Nebraska Invite, placing ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.89w).
Before Nebraska (Clearview Regional HS)
Ross won indoor and outdoor individual state championships at the 2005 New Jersey Group III state meet in the 55- (7.78) and 110-meter hurdles (14.40) as a senior under Coach Thomas Hengel... also placed fifth in the outdoor Group III state meet high jump (6-2)... finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles and tied for eighth in the high jump (6-2) at the 2005 New Jersey Indoor Meet of Champions... produced an outdoor personal-best performance to claim fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.31 at the New Jersey All-Groups State Championships, while finishing seventh in the high jump after clearing 6-6... ran a career-best 7.48 to place third in the prestigious Eastern State Championships 55-meter hurdles as a senior... earned eighth in the 55-meter hurdles indoors and tied for second outdoors in the high jump as a junior at the 2004 New Jersey Group III state meets.
Parents are Edward and Rebecca Ross... father was a hurdler at Nebraska, lettering in 1983 and 1984... brother, Jamelle, runs sprints for the Huskers, while older brother Aaron completed his eligibility at Nebraska in 2007... born Jan. 9, 1987... major is accounting.
