Lubach Tabbed at Big Ten Player of the Week

By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln – After finishing the week with a .500 batting average and eight RBIs, Nebraska junior Tanner Lubach was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday morning by the conference office. It’s the first time the Lincoln native has earned a weekly conference award and it is the fourth weekly award the baseball team has won this season.

Lubach started at catcher in four of Nebraska’s five games last week, including both games of a doubleheader sweep of No. 25 UC Irvine on Saturday. He was 8-for-16 for the week, including two doubles, a triple and his second home run of the season. Lubach’s eight RBIs led Nebraska last week and he posted an on-base percentage of .529 with no strikeouts.

After Nebraska dropped the first game of a three-game series with the Anteaters on Friday, Lubach and the Huskers came out with a 13-4 win in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday and won game two, 7-4. In the game one, Lubach was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs.

The Huskers finish a nine-game homestand tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. when the Creighton Bluejays come to Hawks Field.
