Bloomington, Ind. - The Nebraska softball team completed a disappointing Saturday doubleheader at Indiana with a 6-2 loss in game two at the IU Softball Field.

Nebraska lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader to fall to 31-20 on the season and 12-7 in Big Ten Conference play. The Huskers entered play on Saturday one-half game behind league-leading Michigan in the Big Ten standings, but Nebraska is now 2 1/2 games behind the Wolverines with four games remaining in the season.

The Huskers were their own worst enemy in Saturday's doubleheader. Indiana had a total of six run-scoring innings in the doubleheader but the Hoosiers didn't need many hits to produce their runs. In game one, Indiana scored three times on one hit in the first inning and added a sixth-inning run without the aid of a hit. IU scored again without a hit in the first inning of game two, before adding two runs in the third on only one hit. When Indiana scored twice in the fifth inning of game two to take a 5-0 lead, it marked the first run-scoring inning where the Hoosiers had recorded more than one hit. Indiana then added a run on two more hits in the sixth inning.

Indiana jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as Nebraska fell behind for the 10th time in 11 Big Ten road games. The Hoosiers scored again without the aid of a hit, as a leadoff walk cost Nebraska a fifth run on the day, when the walk came around to score on a wild pitch, the second wild pitch that allowed a run to score on the doubleheader.

Trailing 1-0, back-to-back singles from freshman Mattie Fowler and senior Madison Drake put Huskers on first and second with none out in the top of the third. But the Huskers were unable to advance the runners as the next three batters were retired.

The Hoosiers stretched the lead to 3-0 with more help from the Huskers in the bottom of the third. The first two batters reached on a walk and an error, before an RBI single and an RBI ground out scored both runners.

Indiana led 5-0 after scoring twice in the fifth on a two-run triple from Cassie Gogreve.

Nebraska found the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. Junior Brooke Thomason reached on a one-out double and scored on an RBI single from sophomore Tatum Edwards one batter later to cut the lead to 5-1.

Indiana got the run back in the bottom of the frame before senior Madison Drake capped a two-hit game with a two-out solo home run in the top of the seventh.

With the win, Indiana improved to 26-25 on the year and evened its Big Ten record at 10-10. Lora Olson (14-14) earned the complete-game victory, allowing two runs on nine hits.

Tatum Edwards (8-5) took the loss for Nebraska. In 6.0 innings, Edwards allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits. She walked three, hit two and did not have a strikeout.

Thomason and Edwards had outstanding offensive performances in the doubleheader. Thomason went 1-for-2 and was hit by a pitch in game two, as she reached base in five of her six plate appearances in the doubleheader, collecting three hits. Edwards went 2-for-3 with an RBI in game two and was 5-for-6 in the doubleheader.

Nebraska out-hit Indiana 9-7 in game two, and the Huskers out-hit the Hoosiers, 16-9 in the doubleheader.

NU and Indiana wrap up their three-game series on Sunday at Noon (Central).
