Through the Eyes of a Coach: Feb. 18
Two weeks into the season and the Huskers are off to a solid start. We thought we were young last year with 44% freshmen....well, we are pretty young again this year with 75% underclassmen. This spry group is eagerly working, learning and aspiring to continue to raise their level of play. We are proud of their efforts and will continue to have high standards for level and commitment to heart and hustle.
The first weekend brought some excitement as we squared off against No. 12 Florida State in a two-game series and earned a split. Tatum Edwards pitched a very good game, and our defense was playing well behind her. We also had a breakout offensive effort against the host team, New Mexico State. It was fun to get a lot of the players into the game to make contributions to the 11-run production.
This past weekend, we took our game to Houston, where we opened up with a very tough Houston Cougar team who is coming off a strong NCAA performance in 2013. We had outstanding pitching on the weekend, led by Emily Lockman who earned three victories. In Sunday's game, Taylor Edwards broke out and slammed two home runs to lead us to a 7-1 victory.
Stay tuned Husker fans as we travel to Palm Springs and face our first four teams who have a collective record of 38-2 in 2014...SHOULD BE FUN!!#Stir It Up,
