Iowa City, Iowa – Junior Josh Reinertson led the Nebraska men’s golf team on Saturday by carding back-to-back 74s in the first two rounds of the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational.

The Huskers are in 10th place with 607 strokes heading into Sunday’s final round. Nebraska opened Saturday with 305 before posting 302 in the second round at Finkbine Golf Course, a par-72, 7,239-yard layout. Tournament host Iowa leads the team race after shooting 568 on Saturday.

Reinertson’s first round included five birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey on Hole No. 1. In the second round, the Gibbon, Neb., native managed four birdies and six bogeys. He is tied for 24th in the individual standings at 148. Reinertson sits nine strokes behind tournament leader Jose Mendez of Minnesota with 18 holes to play.

Senior Manuel Lavin earned his first start of the 2013-14 season, and took advantage by firing NU’s lowest 18-hole score of the day in his first round. He used three birdies and four bogeys en route to a 1-over-par 73. In the second round, he managed to birdie the par-5 sixth hole, but bogeyed five holes for 4-over-par 76. His 149 total after two rounds is tied for 32nd.

Ross Dickson, who has played in every tournament this season, is tied for 49th at 154. He birdied the par-5 15th hole in the opening round on Saturday, but had six bogeys and one double bogey for 7-over-par 79. He added three birdies in the second round for 3-over-par 75.

Junior Calvin Freeman earned Nebraska’s lone eagle of the day when he made 3 on the par-5 11th hole in the second round. He added two birdies in the round to card 77. In the first round, Freeman used 11 pars en route to 7-over-par 79. His 156 total after Saturday’s action is good for a tie for 57th.

Matt Record, a senior, produced rounds of 80 and 78 and enters the final round tied for 60th. He made four birdies in all on Saturday at Finkbine Golf Course.

The Hawkeye Invitational concludes on Saturday with the final round, starting at 9 a.m. Nebraska’s golfers will tee off on Holes 13, 14, 15 and 16 for the shotgun start.
