Lincoln – The Nebraska men’s golf team won its fourth consecutive Herman Award for highest team grade-point average during the Student-Athlete Recognition Banquet at the Embassy Suites in downtown Lincoln.
The program posted a 3.250 GPA in 2013 to capture its fifth Herman Award in history, since the men’s and women’s team awards began in 1994 thanks to a generous contribution from Dick and Dale Herman.
“This is a tremendous honor,” Head Coach Bill Spangler said. “The commitment the guys have towards academics is second to none. A big thank you to the Herman Family. Without their continued support of Husker Academics, this great evening would not be possible. Also, I appreciate all the hard work Alvin Banks, our team academic advisor, puts in. Alvin keeps constant tabs on the guys, and has done a terrific job for us.”
Well over 700 people attended the 24th annual banquet, which also featured the announcement of other prestigious Nebraska team awards. The women’s tennis team took home the other Herman Award.
