Iowa City, Iowa - After a brief three-day stretch from competition, the Nebraska men's golf team will play in its final event before the Big Ten Championship at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Finkbine Golf Course.
The Huskers will be competing in the event for the second consecutive year. Last spring, NU tied for eighth at the rain-shortened tournament, shooting 612. This season will be the 19th time the Hawkeye Invitational has been contested.
The Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational will be Nebraska's 11th tournament of the 2011-12 campaign as well as its sixth event of the spring season. NU has one team title and three top-10 finishes on the season. In their most recent outing, the Huskers finished eighth at the C.O.G. Mizzou Intercollegiate, shooting 907 over 54 holes. Senior Scott Willman led the team for the eighth straight time this season, earning a seventh-place finish.
Finkbine Golf Course, a par-72, 7,180-yard layout, will play host to 11 teams including Big Ten foes Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State and Wisconsin. The other teams in the field are Iowa State, Charlotte, UMKC, Washington State and Miami University.
Competition will consist of 36 holes on Saturday, followed by 18 holes on Sunday. Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (Central Time). Check Huskers.com for results from the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational.
