Dickson Paces Huskers in New Mexico

Las Cruces, N.M. – Junior Ross Dickson shot 147 over the first two rounds of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate to lead the Nebraska men’s golf team on Monday.

Dickson’s 5-over-par total puts him in a tie for 25th. The London, England native opened with 74 on the par-71, 7,074-yard layout before responding with 73 in the afternoon at NMSU Golf Course. He trails tournament leader Ben Krueger of Northern Colorado by eight strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round.

The Huskers posted 305 in the first round before firing 295 in the second round. NU’s total of 600 sits five strokes out of the top 10.

Justin Jennings carded the best 18-hole Husker score of the day with his even-par 71 in the second round. The freshman shot 78 in the first round for a 149 total over 36 holes. Jennings is tied for 38th heading into the final round.

Junior Calvin Freeman is tied for 59th after the first day of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. Freeman paced his way to back-to-back 76s for a 36-hole total of 152.

Kolton Lapa showed improvement from the first round to the second round and finished the day at 153. Lapa opened with 78 but bounced back with a second-round 4-over-par 75 at NMSU Golf Course. The sophomore is tied for 67th with 18 holes to play.

Senior Mike Siwa managed 157 on Monday in his first start for the Huskers. Siwa recorded 6-over-par 77 in the first round and 9-over-par 80 in the second round. The Omaha, Neb., native sits in a tie for 79th.

Tournament host New Mexico State leads the team race by two strokes over UTEP with a 572 total after 36 holes. Tuesday’s final round is a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
