- Nebraska's victory was its 16th consecutive
win over Minnesota dating back to 1963. The Huskers narrowed Minnesota's
all-time series lead to 29-22-2, and took a 10-8 advantage in games between the
two schools in Lincoln.
- Nebraska improved to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in
Big Ten play with the victory. The Huskers have secured their fifth consecutive
nine-win season under Head Coach Bo Pelini, the 47th nine-win season in school
history and the 40th in the past 44 seasons. Nebraska is one of only four
schools to have secured a fifth straight nine-win season in 2012, joining
Oregon, Alabama and Boise State.
- Nebraska's 38-25 victory was its fifth
straight victory, all in Big Ten Conference play. The five-game win streak is
Nebraska's longest since opening the 2010 season with five straight victories.
It also marks Nebraska's longest conference winning streak since winning its
final five Big 12 Conference games in 2009.
- Nebraska finished the 2012 season with a
perfect 7-0 home record, its first unbeaten home season since 2001. It is the
41st unbeaten and untied home season in school history. Nebraska has won 16 of
its past 17 home games, dating back to October of 2010.
- Nebraska improved to 15-4 in November games
under Bo Pelini, including 9-1 at Memorial Stadium.
- Junior quarterback Taylor Martinez completed
21-of-29 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns against Minnesota, good for
Martinez's third 300-yard passing day of the season and the fourth of his
career. It was also his fourth 200-yard passing day and the seventh of his
career. The 308 passing yards increased Martinez's career passing total to
6,140 yards, establishing a new NU career passing record. Martinez surpassed
the previous record of 5,850 passing yards by Zac Taylor in 2006 and 2006.
- Martinez also rushed eight times for 22
yards in today's game, increasing his season rushing total to 792 yards.
Martinez is 34 yards shy of cracking the top 10 single-season rushing chart for
the third time in his career.
- Martinez accounted for 330 yards of total
offense against Minnesota to increase his season total offense mark to 3,212
yards. The 3,212 yards of total offense in 2012 places Martinez second on the
season total offense list, trailing only Joe Ganz's school record of 3,826
yards in 2008. In today's game, Martinez passed his total of 2,963 yards in
2011, and Zac Taylor's 3,165 yards in 2006.
- Sophomore receiver Kenny Bell had a
career-high nine receptions for a career-high 136 yards, including a 36-yard
touchdown reception in the first quarter and a 30-yard touchdown catch in the
third quarter. Today's game marked Bell's third 100-yard receiving game of the
season (UCLA, Ohio State). Bell's nine catches bettered his previous high of
six receptions against both UCLA and Northwestern earlier this season, while
his 133 receiving yards surpassed his 133 yards at Ohio State.
- Bell's two TD receptions give him a
team-leading eight touchdown catches this season, with all eight of his
touchdown receptions covering at least 25 yards. Bell's eight touchdown
catches this season is tied for fourth on the NU single-season list.
- Bell continues to move up both the career
and season receptions and receiving yardage list. With his 136 receiving yards,
Bell increased his season receiving yardage total to 789 yards, establishing a
record for the most receiving yards by a sophomore in school history. The
previous mark was 665 yards by Johnny Rodgers in 1970. His 789 receiving yards
in 2012 are sixth on the NU single-season list. Bell also increased his career
receiving yardage total to 1,250 yards to move up four spots to ninth on the NU
career receiving yardage list. In today's game he surpassed Tracey Wistrom, Guy
Ingles, Irving Fryar and Matt Herian on the NU career receiving yardage list.
Bell's nine receptions give him 44 this season, moving him into eighth place on
the NU single-season receptions list. Bell now has 76 career receptions, good
for 12th on the career receptions list.
- Today's game marked Bell's 23rd straight
game with at least one reception, the third-longest streak in Nebraska school
history. Bell has had at least three receptions in 13 of those 23 games.
- Sophomore I-back Ameer Abdullah rushed
18 times for 79 yards, to increase his season rushing total to 1,021 yards.
Abdullah's 1,000-yard season gives Nebraska a 1,000-yard rusher for the third
straight season and for the 32nd time in school history.
- Nebraska did not have a 100-yard rusher in
today's game, ending a streak of nine straight games with Nebraska having a
100-yard rusher. Nebraska rushed for a season-low 133 yards. Today's game
marked just the second time this season Nebraska did not rush for 200 yards,
joining 160 yards rushing in a win over Michigan.
- Sophomore receiver Jamal Turner caught
a career-high six passes for 83 yards, just one yard from his career high of 84
yards at Wisconsin in 2010. Turner's previous career high for receptions was
five catches at Wisconsin last season, and his previous season high was three
receptions.
- Senior place-kicker Brett Maher scored
eight points in today's game on a 39-yard first quarter field goal and 5-5
PATs. With his eight points today, Maher increased his season total to 98 and his
career total to 198. Maher moved from 20th to 17th on the NU career scoring
list.
- Nebraska allowed Minnesota just 177 yards
of total offense in the game, the fewest by a Nebraska opponent this season.
The Huskers also allowed just 189 yards of total offense in this season's win
over Michigan.
- Minnesota completed 10-of-28 passes in the
game marking the ninth team in 11 games to complete 50 percent or less of their
passes. Nebraska entered the game allowing opponents to complete just 46.4
percent of their pass attempts, the best mark in the nation.
- Senior linebacker Will Compton recorded
10 tackles in today's game to increase his career tackle total to 230. Compton
moved up four spots to 17th on the Nebraska career tackles list.
- Nebraska safety Daimion Stafford had
a third-quarter interception for his third interception of the season and his
third in the past four games.
- Nebraska cornerback Stanley
Jean-Baptiste had a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown in the
third quarter, marking NU's second interception return for a touchdown this
season (also Ciante Evans vs. Idaho State). The interception was Baptiste's
second of the season and the third of his career.
- Today's game captains were
I-back Rex Burkhead , wide receiver Tim Marlowe, defensive tackle
Baker Steinkuhler and linebacker Will Compton.
