Tucson, Ariz. - Nebraska's Steffi Neisen fired a school-record 66 in the second round of the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday, helping the Husker women's golf team to fourth place among 15 teams heading into Saturday's final round.
Neisen, a sophomore from New Prague, Minn., bettered the previous school record by one stroke, which was most recently accomplished earlier this season by senior teammate Madeleine Sheils at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash., Oct. 3-5.
Neisen's record-setting second round followed an opening-round 75, as she closed the day in fifth place at 141. Sheils, a native of Boise, Idaho, sits just one shot back in a tie for sixth at 142. Sheils opened the day with a 69 of her own, her third round of better than 70 this season, before adding a second-round 73.
With Neisen and Sheils leading the charge, the Huskers head into Saturday's final round on the 6,227-yard, par-72 layout at the Mountain View Golf Course in fourth place at 584, following rounds of 295 and 289 on Friday.
