Wright, Deeg in Top Five in Missouri

Springfield, Mo. - Nebraska women's golfers Katelyn Wright and Cassie Deeg closed the opening day of the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial in a tie for fifth place through 36 holes at the Rivercut Golf Course on Monday.

Wright, a junior from Incline Village, Nev., and Deeg, a freshman from Hugo, Minn., fired identical scores of 149 through the first two rounds on the par-72, 6,082-yard layout at Rivercut. With Wright and Deeg leading the way, the Huskers enter Tuesday's final round in sixth place at 623 (308-315) in the 15-team tournament field.

UALR leads the team race at 593, while the hosts from Missouri State are seven shots back at 600. Oral Roberts sits nine strokes off the pace at 602, while Wichita State and Oklahoma City University are tied for fourth at 611.

Wright opened the day with a first-round 74, before managing a second-round 75, while Deeg carded an opening-round 75 before following with a 74.

Junior Steffi Neisen notched rounds of 79 and 83 to close the day in a tie for 46th at 162 in the 93-player field. Redshirt freshman Jackie O'Doherty contributed Nebraska's other two scores on the day with rounds of 80 and 83 to close at 163 in a tie for 49th. Redshirt freshman Morgan Smejkal rounded out NU's lineup with scores of 81 and 84 to enter Tuesday's final round in a tie for 59th at 165.

Redshirt freshman Cassidy Stelzmiller and true freshman Hannah Luebke competed in the tournament as individuals on Monday, carding identical rounds of 80 and 81 to tie for 41st through 36 holes.

The Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial concludes with a final round on Tuesday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
