The Nebraska men's tennis team begins their 2013-14 season this weekend at the Georgia State Fall Invitational from Sept. 20-22 in Atlanta, Ga. The invite will be held at the Sharon Lester Tennis Center at Piedmont Park and will host Georgia State, Nebraska, Georgia Southern and South Alabama.
Only two of the teams heading to Atlanta have ITA pre-season ranked players. South Alabama affords junior No. 50 Daniel Leitner in singles while Georgia State owns one ranked duo in No. 58 Robert Schulze and Sofiane Chevallier.
The tournament has a unique format, with each team playing in four doubles matches and eight singles matches. Both the singles and doubles matches will be comprised of two flights: the white flight and the blue flight. The top four singles players on each team will play on the blue flight, while the bottom four will play on the white. A winner will be named for each flight based on a point system: five points for a 2-set win and four points for a 3-set win.
Friday’s matches begin at 9 a.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m. Doubles play will begin each day, followed by the eight singles matches. A point system will be utilized to name a winner from each flight, with two-set wins awarded five points and three-set wins awarded four points.
