SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The second match of the three-game road trip for the Huskers wasn’t as friendly as their first match, as No. 53 Cal Poly downed No. 55 Nebraska, 5-1. The loss drops the Huskers to 7-6 on the year.

The match started with singles play, where the Huskers were able to pick up their lone point on court No. 2 when NU’s Benedikt Lindheim downed Cal Poly’s Brian McPhee in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.

The other five matches in singles play weren’t as kind to Nebraska as it dropped them all as only one match went to three sets.

Playing at the No. 1 spot in the Huskers’ lineup was No. 73 Christopher Aumueller who was defeated by the Mustangs’ No. 25 Andre Dome, 7-5, 6-2.

On court No. 3 Cal Poly’s Matt Fawcett defeated NU’s Andre Stenger, 7-5, 6-1. At the No. 4 spot, the Mustangs Jordan Bridge downed Nebraska’s Stefan Gollner, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6. Playing at the No. 5 spot in the Huskers’ lineup was Eric Sock who was defeated by Cal Poly’s Marco Comuzzo, 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 6 spot, Cal Poly’s Jurgen De Jager downed NU’s Tom Blackwell 6-2, 6-4.

There was no doubles play due to darkness.

After the match, Nebraska’s head coach Kerry McDermott gave the Mustangs credit saying they’re a better team than what their No. 53 ranking shows.

“They're a very strong team- way better than their ranking indicates,” McDermott said. “They played pretty well and it wasn’t one of our better matches. I give them credit they played strong.

“Benedikt Lindheim had a strong showing for the Huskers. We need to see the rest of the team play at that level. Now we have to get ready for another tough match tomorrow.”

The Huskers will face No. 8 Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif., on Tuesday, March 20. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
