Huskers Routed by Red Raiders
The Huskers lost all three doubles matches and weren't able to recover in singles play. Hendrik Stahmer and Francois Van Impe each took their matches into third-set super-tiebreakers, but neither was able to win and get a point on the board for the Huskers. Calin Paar lost for just the second time in his last nine matches, and David Bendheim was stalled at No. 1 singles by Bojan Szumanski, the 43rd-ranked player in the nation. Bendheim is now 3-6 against ranked singles opponents on the year.
“They overpowered us, and took it to us from the start,” said NU Head Coach Kerry McDermott. “They just played much better than we did. Our guys need to get better at playing smarter. They all have gameplans that they just need to stick to.”
The Huskers finish up their regular season schedule next week with three matches. They play their final home match on Tuesday, April 15, against in-state foe Nebraska-Kearney before traveling to Baylor on April 18 and to Oklahoma on April 20. Tuesday's match against UNK is schedule for a 2 p.m. start, and will be played at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
