Lexington, Ky. - Despite a great effort, the No. 6 Nebraska rifle team lost to No. 1 Kentucky on Sunday by a score of 4,659-4,680, but the Huskers still had a lot to be proud of according to Coach Stacy Underwood.

“We came here with the goal of improving our qualifying scores and learning how to perform in a high pressure situation,” Underwood said, and the team did just that.

Rachel Martin fired a 584 in smallbore to help the Huskers keep pace with Kentucky, but Nebraska still trailed by 5 points after smallbore. Kelsey Hansen had another 591 in air rifle to give the Huskers a boost, but the team was unable to upset the Wildcats. The team finished with a 2,316 in smallbore and a 2,343 in air rifle.

Kentucky was led in smallbore by Emily Holsopple who scored a 583. In air rifle, both Sonya May and Connor Davis finished with a 592 to help the Wildcats take the win.  Kentucky finished with 2,321 in smallbore and a 2,359 in air rifle.

Nebraska will have a short week of practice as the team prepares to travel to West Point, N.Y. to face NC State on Saturday and Army on Sunday.  These will be the last two matches of the regular season for the Huskers. Both matches are set to begin at 7 a.m.
