The Nebraska rifle team is ranked fifth on this week’s Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Top 20 Poll.
The Huskers competed in two matches last weekend in Lexington, Ky. On Saturday, the Huskers defeated Murray State by a score of 4,652-4,593. The following day the Huskers lost to Kentucky by a score of 4,659-4,680. Despite the loss, many members of the team had very strong performances, earning them spots on this week’s Top 20 Scores list.
Rachel Martin’s score of 584 on Sunday tied her for second on the smallbore high scores list. Denise Martin, Lauren Phillips and Kelsey Hansen also made the smallbore high scores list. D. Martin and Phillips both tied for 11th place with a score of 580, while Hansen tied for 15th place with a score of 578.
Hansen fired a 591 in air rifle both days, tying her for sixth place on the air rifle high scores list. Phillips, R. Martin, Maggie Mical and ReAnn Wilson earned spots on the air rifle list as well. Phillips finished with a score of 589 and is tied for ninth place on the list. R. Martin made the list for her performances during both matches. On Saturday, she scored a 588, tying her for 12thplace. On Sunday she finished with a 586 tying her for 16th place. Wilson and Mical also scored a 586, tying them with R. Martin for 16th place.
Nebraska will head to West Point, N.Y. this weekend to compete against No. 15 NC State on Saturday and No. 6 Army on Sunday. These are the last two matches of the regular season. Both matches are expected to start at 7 a.m.
