Nebraska Scores Well in GSR Report

Six Nebraska teams achieved perfect scores in the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report released on Thursday by the NCAA.

The six teams to earn a perfect 100 percent GSR score included women's golf, women's basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball and women's tennis. Those teams all led or tied for the lead in the Big Ten Conference in GSR scores. The women's swimming program also topped 90 percent in the GSR with a 92 percent rate.

Overall, 11 of Nebraska's 19 programs achieved a GSR score of 80 percent or better.  The Graduation Success Rate is an NCAA measurement that, unlike the federally mandated graduation rates, includes transfer data in the calculation. This marks the sixth year the NCAA has released GSR rates.

The GSR scores released on Thursday are based on four classes of scholarship student-athletes who entered college from the fall of 200 to the fall of 2005. They allow a six-year window in which student-athletes can earn their degree. Although GSR scores include student-athletes who transferred to Nebraska, they do not count student-athletes who transferred to another school and were academically eligible at the time of their transfer.

Nebraska also posts an impressive 96 percent exhausted eligibility graduation rate, up one percentage point from 2011. Although the NCAA no longer computes the Exhausted Eligibility Rate, the University of Nebraska continues to make graduating all student-athletes who compete for the Huskers a focus. The exhausted eligibility rate surveys the graduation rate of scholarship student-athletes in 10 incoming freshmen classes who complete their eligibility at Nebraska. Nebraska's exhausted eligibility rate has improved 24 percentage points since the rate was first calculated in 1991-92.

Nebraska's exhausted eligibility rate includes members of the incoming classes from 1996-97 through 2005-06. During that period, 396 of the 413 Nebraska scholarship student-athletes who completed their eligibility earned their degrees.
