The Nebraska Athletic Department announced Wednesday that Jamie Vaughn has been hired as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. Vaughn joins the Nebraska staff after holding the same position at Kansas State for the past three years.
Vaughn will assume his new position in mid-July and will replace Gary Bargen who will retire later this summer. Bargen has led the Nebraska compliance department since 1999, and been a member of the compliance staff since 1995. He served as an assistant basketball coach from 1987 to 1995.
"Jamie Vaughn has a strong background in the area of Compliance that should be beneficial to our coaches, student-athletes and athletic department staff," Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne said. "Jamie has been a productive and successful member of several strong athletic departments around the country, and he is held in high regard in his field. We look forward to adding him in this important role in our athletic department at Nebraska.
"Gary Bargen has been a key member of our staff for a number of years, first with our basketball program and most recently in our Compliance Department. Gary has done an excellent job heading up our Compliance program. We want to thank him for his outstanding service and wish him well in his retirement."
Vaughn will take charge of a compliance staff of seven members that is charged with ensuring that the conduct and operations of Nebraska's 23 athletic teams are in compliance with NCAA and Big Ten Conference rules and regulations. He will also be a member of Osborne's athletic department executive staff.
"I am very excited about the opportunity Coach Osborne has given me to lead the Compliance Office at the University of Nebraska," Vaughn said. "Nebraska athletics is respected nationally for both its academic and athletic accomplishments, and I feel blessed to be joining the staff. I am looking forward to working with the administration, coaches, staff and student-athletes and with all of the fine people on the campus at the University. My family and I are also excited about joining the Lincoln community."
