First presented in 1946 and named for John Outland, an All-American tackle at the University of Pennsylvania in 1897, the Outland Trophy is presented by the Football Writers' Association of America to the nation's outstanding collegiate interior lineman. Nebraska leads the nation with nine Outland trophy winners, including 2009 honoree Ndamukong Suh. Three other Huskers (Jason Peter in 1997, Dominic Raiola in 2000 and Toniu Fonoti in 2001) have been finalists for the award.
