The Big Ten Conference has done such a thorough job of recognizing our culture and helping us assimilate into theirs that today's milestone almost seems like a non-event as we become the league's 12th official member.

We appreciate the constant communication that has occurred between Nebraska and the Big Ten, and we are ready to take this important step.

Our respect for the Big Ten's stability and tradition was a big factor in our desire to join the league.  We see a great deal of common ground and share an overall concern about the well being of student-athletes.  Big Ten schools tend to look at the world the way we do, so this is a good fit for us athletically, academically, and culturally.

We know the great majority of Nebraskans are looking forward to new venues and new experiences, but we also know that it's fun to remember our long tradition of excellence.

That's why Huskers.com is commemorating this milestone with an interactive timeline looking at our past conference success and also taking us back with interviews from key members of our Nebraska Athletic Family.

July is the right moment in time to do something like this, because next month we launch into a whole new era in our storied history.

Thank you all for your loyalty and support, and GO BIG RED!
