It is important to know that once a student-athlete joins the Nebraska family, they will always be a Husker. Student-athletes leave UNL with a knowledge base and skills that will prepare them for life, but many don't realize that the support services they've enjoyed throughout their college experience are available to them after they've exhausted their eligibility and graduated. In order to ensure that our student-athletes are aware of the opportunities available to them as they move into their lives after sport, the Senior Retreat, created by Athletic Director Tom Osborne, was initiated.
Student-athletes in their final year of athletic eligibility gathered on Monday, November 16th for the first annual Senior Retreat. The night kicked off with some advice and observations from Osborne. He was followed by presenters that spoke on the topics of staying connected to Husker athletics and UNL, nutrition and wellness, disengagement from sport, money and investing, supporting Nebraska athletics, and ongoing career services for Husker athletes. The presenters came from many different walks of life. Some were former Huskers themselves, and others came from various departments from both the UNL campus and the Athletic Department.
At the end of the evening, the student-athletes walked away with new knowledge of the programs offered to them and additional materials to use as they transition into their next phase of life - the real world! The Husker Senior Retreat is yet another example of a Nebraska resource demonstrating an unmatched commitment to success in life.
