Pelini, Defense Prepares for Idaho

By NU Athletic Communications
LINCOLN - The Nebraska Cornhuskers continued their preparation for Saturday's showdown with the Idaho Vandals as they practiced in full pads on the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice fields Tuesday afternoon. After practice, Defensive Coordinator Carl Pelini talked about the NU defensive line, which looks to have a tough challenge this weekend.

"We coach and teach," he said. "I thought they played really well. These guys take coaching and there will be a lot of improvement all over the board."

Senior Pierre Allen, junior Jared Crick and sophomore Cameron Meredith combined for 15 tackles against Western Kentucky. The Blackshirts will face a strong offensive attack against Idaho.

"They'll use some spread sets and they throw the ball well," Pelini said. "They're also able to line up in big personnel with a big physical offensive line and pound the ball straight ahead. We have to shore up the defense in that regard. They'll do some things that mimic what Western Kentucky did."

Pelini also spoke about Vandals quarterback, Nathan Enderle, saying, "He makes good decisions, has a strong arm and a very experienced guy; a good football player."

Enderle reminds Pelini of former Husker play caller Joe Ganz in the sense that Enderle is an opportune scrambler.

"I wouldn't call him a runner, but he's an opportune scrambler. He reminds me of Joe Ganz a couple years ago, where you don't think about him as a runner but over and over again you see him moving the chains with a seven- or eight-yard scramble."

The Huskers face Idaho this Saturday at Memorial Stadium when they kick off at 11:30 a.m. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net Pay-Per-View.
