Lincoln - The Nebraska football team practiced for two hours and 15 minutes on the grass practice fields outside the Hawks Championship Center Wednesday afternoon. The Huskers practiced in full pads for the first time this week as they prepare for their match-up against San Jose State on Saturday.
With one game under its belt, Head Coach Bo Pelini said he likes the way the team is progressing in the second week of the season.
“We’re getting better. I think our guys are getting more comfortable,” Pelini said. “I like the way we are practicing. I like the effort and concentration, and the focus out there. We’re moving along.”
One of the Huskers’ main focus points this week will be stopping San Jose State’s pass-happy offense and quarterback Kyle Reed. Reed came in late in the game against UC Davis for San Jose State, completing 14-of-18 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns and rushing seven times for 28 yards.”
“He made some plays (at the end of the game). He’s got some athleticism to him. He is smart and he makes some good decisions. He played well when he was in there,” Pelini said.
After Saturday’s game against Western Michigan, Pelini said a lack of communication between the Husker defenders was one of the reasons for the amount of big plays the Broncos had. Pelini said that his team is working on communicating better and likes the way his team is progressing in that aspect of the game.
“It’s getting better,” Pelini said. “Again, it’s not exactly where we want it to be, but it’s improving. Hopefully it will be a lot better on Saturday.”
Kickoff for this Saturday’s game is set for 11:30 a.m. For more information on the game check out the Husker Game Day page located on Huskers.com.
