After beginning their practice in Memorial Stadium, the Huskers were forced to finish their two-hour workout inside the Hawks Championship after rainy conditions moved through the Lincoln area. Head coach Bo Pelini has been impressed with the way his team has responded to last week’s loss to Oklahoma and expects the Huskers to come out strong against the Jayhawks on Saturday.
“Good practice. We have some things we need to get fixed, but I think we have gotten a lot of work done,” Pelini said. “I think we’re in good position for this part of the week. We still have another work day tomorrow. I like the progression we’ve had. I think we’re going to be ready to play good football.”
On Saturday, the Husker defense will be challenged by the KU offense and their star receiver Dezmon Briscoe. The sophomore is currently ranked No. 8 in the Big 12 in receiving yards per game at 88.3 yards and has 10 total touchdowns on the season.
“He’s big, he’s physical. He plays the ball real well and is real strong with his hands,” Pelini said. “When he gets going he’s pretty fast. He’s not going to wow you with his speed off the ball, but he is big, he uses his body well, he had good hands and he catches the ball in a crowd.”
On the injury front, senior offensive lineman Lydon Murtha sat out today’s practice with a foot sprain, but will look to return for tomorrow’s practice.
The Huskers and Jayhawks will face off this Saturday with kick-off set for 1:30 p.m., at Memorial Stadium. The game will be carried on pay-per-view by FSN. Check back to Huskers.com for more information on this weekend’s game.
