Nebraska hopes to achieve balance with a strong running game on Saturday against Kansas State.

LINCOLN – The Nebraska football team held its final full-scale workout of the week Thursday with a two-hour practice inside Memorial Stadium.

Head Coach Bill Callahan reiterated the importance of Nebraska establishing a running game this Saturday in its final home game against Kansas State.

"Every game that we go into, we try and establish a running game and have a balance in our attack," Callahan said. "Sometimes we’re fortunate to do that, and sometimes we’re not, but we want to be able to do that Saturday. We want to be able to establish the run and do what we need to do up front. There are certain things we’ve schemed and planned that we want to attack their defense with, and we’re confident that we can do that. Let’s hope it all comes to (fruition)."

Callahan also commended this year’s senior class Thursday, noting its work ethic and leadership qualities in helping to build team unity in 2005.

"They’ve meant a lot to me, just because of the hard work, effort, determination and dedication they’ve put into this program," Callahan said. "They’re a great group of guys. They want to win, and that’s the thing that impresses me most about this group. Day-in and day-out, they’re great to be around. They’re fun in practice and work hard. More importantly, they’re great guys off the field. They’ve been pivotal this year in helping us change some things in terms of our team unity. They’ve been instrumental in the overall unity of our team. They’ve been a real positive force."

On the injury front, Callahan reported that left tackle Cornealius Fuamatu-Thomas has a "great chance" of being ready to play Saturday after missing practice time the last two weeks due to injury.

The Huskers will hold a short walkthrough Friday afternoon at Memorial Stadium as they conclude their preparations for Saturday’s 1 p.m. matchup with Kansas State.

NOTE: Nebraska hosted a familiar visitor during practice, as Josh Bullocks, former Husker free safety and twin brother of current NU strong safety Daniel Bullocks, was on hand Thursday. Josh, the starting strong safety for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, is with family in Lincoln during his bye week to help celebrate Senior Day with Daniel Saturday.
