Nebraska continued preparations for next Wednesday’s Alamo Bowl matchup with Michigan on Christmas Day, conducting a two-hour afternoon practice at Trinity University. For the second straight day the Huskers enjoyed perfect weather conditions with temperatures in the mid 70s and sunny skies on Sunday, and less wind than on Saturday.

Nebraska Coach Bill Callahan said the Huskers’ Sunday workout was less physical than their first workout in San Antonio, but the players overall workload remains heavy.

“We worked on a lot of different situations in today’s practice,” Callahan said. “We backed off some of the reps and we didn’t do full-scale contact work today. Physically we eliminated a lot of the banging today, but we have not backed down mentally.”

Callahan was also asked about the continued development of Nebraska’s three young offensive tackles--true freshman Matt Slauson, redshirt freshman Lydon Murtha and sophomore Chris Patrick—who have all seen extensive action in the latter stages of the season.

“The bowl practice time has been good for those young guys,” Callahan said. “They are young players and they need a lot of experience. They have all really benefited from the extra time the past few weeks.”

The Huskers followed practice by getting together as a team Sunday night for Christmas dinner at the Hyatt Riverwalk, Nebraska’s team hotel. The Huskers return to the practice field at Trinity University on Monday with a mid-day workout, before finalizing preparations for the Alamo Bowl with a walk-thru on Tuesday afternoon at the Alamodome.

Note to Media: Media covering the team in San Antonio and planning to attend Monday’s practice session should arrive at Trinity University by 11:15 a.m. Nebraska’s practice is scheduled to begin at Noon, but practices each of the first two days have started early. The first 15-20 minutes of practice will be open to shoot on Monday. There will be no interviews at the practice site following Monday’s practice.
