Nebraska 56, Nicholls State 7
Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006A
Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, Neb.

On losing starting quarterback Vince Montgomery
"It seemed like we had something going there and then when he went down it was a big swing. Certainly we hate that Vince got hurt but it was good to get Chris (Bunch) out (there). We got him a ton of work today. He was going to play anyway. We were going to split them 50/50 and he just ended up playing a lot more than we expected."

On his defense against Nebraska on third downs
"That's to Nebraska's credit. They're so big, so physical. They've got a number of weapons. But I'd like to say this about our players and our team: our defense really fought (tooth and nail). We had a very courageous effort from our guys. We had effort the entire game. We played just about everyone we could possibly play."

On whether Nebraska was looking ahead to USC next week
"I didn't notice that at all. The intensity was there and Coach (Bill) Callahan had his guys ready to play. They came out and were looking to take care of business early."

On what this game means to the Nicholls State football program
"Earlier in the week I wanted to thank Nebraska for giving us the opportunity to come and play and to help our program. And that's what this does. It's been great for our fans to come and be a part of this atmosphere. It's been good for our players to come and have the opportunity to play here. Now they've got something when they go on they can tell their kids they played here. And they can tell their grandkids they played here."

On Nebraska's running back depth
"(It's) Really good. Multi-talented guys. Big, physical runners. They all bring a little something different to the table but they're all really quality backs. I thought they were all really good."
