Nebraska vs. Texas
Postgame Quotes
Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006
Memorial Stadium
Lincoln, Neb.

On the game
"First, let me say congratulations to Nebraska. Bill (Callahan) is doing a fantastic job here and what a great comeback for them. Any time you are a coach like myself that has been it in 30-something years, and Bill, who has been in it 29 years, you always love to see your team win, and you’re also disappointed for a team that played so hard and so well like Nebraska did and lose in the end. You know how that feeling is on both sides. Congratulations again to what a great effort."

On place-kicker Ryan Bailey’s game-winning field goal
"He kicks well from right to left. He has not missed a kick in practice. We have really been impressed by him, and again, we were going to kick him in the Baylor game last week, but Greg (Johnson) just felt good. We’ve only kicked two field goals all year, but Ryan has been a guy that hasn’t missed in practice, and we thought he would make it in a game."

On the Nebraska atmosphere
"The crowd was great. This is still the best place to play on the road in the country. These people are great. You’ve got people before the game shaking your hand saying ‘Welcome, I’m glad you’re here.’ You’ve got people at halftime (saying) ‘Great first half, coach.’ Sometimes you’re taken back by it because that doesn’t happen a lot where we travel.

"Another great Texas-Nebraska game. I think the three that we’ve played here now have come down to the last minute of the game. They have just been great games for college football."

On what Nebraska is feeling right now
"I’m feeling like I’m sick and really disappointed because they had a chance to win the game, obviously.

But as soon as they back away from it, they will see that their program is back on track and one of the best in the country. And they’ll be excited about a chance to go play somebody in Kansas City, and hopefully, if might be us."

On what Nebraska can take from this loss
"I think they will take a lot out of this. Not today. This is tough day for them emotionally because they had it there and lost it right in the end. But Tuesday, Wednesday, those kids will see that they have a chance to be really, really, good."
