NU linebacker Steve Octavien sat out Thursday's practice but is expected to play Saturday against Texas A&M.

The Nebraska football team wrapped up preparations for its Saturday contest with Texas A&M with a two-hour practice in shorts and shoulder pads inside Memorial Stadium Thursday afternoon.

Throughout the week, the Huskers have prepared for the atmosphere of Kyle Field by playing a recording of crowd noise and the Texas A&M band playing over the speakers of the practice field.

“We had a little music going over the speakers to keep the guys focused,” head coach Bill Callahan said.  “They tell me the atmosphere down there is pretty regimented and organized.”

Linebacker Steve Octavien sat out practice today after practicing yesterday as he continues to recover from an injury.

“We just backed him down today,” Callahan said.  “He’ll be ready to go for the game.”

Also continuing to recover from an injury is NU long snapper Lane Kelly, who is trying to work his way back from a foot injury.  In his absence, T.J. O’Leary has filled the role of long snapper well.

“T.J. has done really, really well,” Callahan said.  “It’s great to have a guy to step in and step up and do the things he’s done.  He’s been accurate.  He’s done a tremendous job.”

Callahan also reacted to the news of Iowa State head coach Dan McCarney’s resignation.

“Mac is a great guy and I have such respect for what he’s accomplished there,” Callahan said.  “He’s not going to be out of work very long.  He’s a quality guy and a great coach.  He’s done a great job with them.”

Nebraska will have its walk-through Friday morning in Lincoln before flying down to Texas later in the day ahead of Saturday's 2:30 regionally-televised matchup with the Aggies.
