Dane Todd earned Academic All-America honors for the second consecutive year Thursday.

Nebraska senior fullback Dane Todd has been selected as an ESPN the Magazine second-team Academic All-American, as announced on Thursday. The award marks the second straight year Todd has been honored as an Academic All-American, following his first-team selection in 2005.

A Lincoln native, Todd graduated in May with a degree in biological sciences and completed his undergraduate work with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. Todd has been enrolled in graduate courses this semester and plans to pursue medical school next fall.

Todd’s selection continues Nebraska’s tradition of being the nation’s leader in Academic All-Americans for football and all sports. The Husker football program leads the country with 86 academic All-Americans, including 62 first-team selections, most recently Todd and center Kurt Mann last season.

The Huskers have had at least one Academic All-American in 20 of the past 21 seasons.Todd is the first Husker to earn Academic All-America honors in consecutive years since defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch was a first-team selection in 1999 and 2000.

The Nebraska athletic department boasts 235 Academic All-Americans across all sports, including junior volleyball standout Sarah Pavan, who was named volleyball’s Academic All-American of the Year earlier this week.

On the field, Todd is in his second season as Nebraska’s starting fullback. He has caught two passes, including a touchdown, out of the backfield, and serves as a lead blocker for a Husker running game that ranks 18th nationally, averaging better than 180 yards per game. Earlier this week Todd was honored for his efforts on the field, being named the first-team All-Big 12 fullback by the league’s coaches.

Todd is also a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection, was named to the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team earlier this fall and is a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy.

Todd was one of three Big 12 players named first or second team Academic All-American.
